The ice was melting

I stayed where I was

As ocean encroached

Consuming my world

Through panic and pain

I cowered in place

The slow death of hope

Was exposed on my face

But when my eyes opened

The blue sky was there

The ocean caressing,

Untangling my hair

My iceberg was gone

Dissolved into freedom

I swam for a shore

To expand my mind’s kingdom
