The journey back home
Will always feel shorter
And walking with fire
Kills darkness’s horrors
The pocketed matches
Are currently dormant
Awaiting a spark
To bring shadow its torment
Without any trouble
She returned to the light
The body still lying
Gone untouched through the night
Eyes frozen and glued
To the blank, starless sky
A harsh, lifeless place
For someone to die
She light’s up a match
Inspiration’s spark
A sword to the cold
A knife to the dark
A fire to the man
Now rising in smoke
His soul shining light
Ever since he awoke
They look to the east
Dawn breaks into view
“I never thought
We’d see this through”
“Night will always
Lead to day
If we understand
The part we play”
