8/15/2022: Unknown Journey II

With each step she took

Light faded away

The place that she reached

Would be dark until day

The crunching of snow

And the harsh, bitter cold

Sole pieces of proof

Of existence’s hold

As the mind colors in

The darkness around her

The ghosts that are watching

And the flesh-starving monsters

The frost takes a bite

Of a finger despite

The gloves she was wearing

To fend off the night

She swears that she saw

A smile hang in the air

Licking its lips

As if to prepare

For a dish best served warm

Before cold got its share

Opening wide

Baring teeth sharp to scare

And then it dissolves

In the light of a town

She limps on ahead

Trying not to fall down

As the light keeps approaching

She approaches the light

The end of her journey

Has entered her sight
