The end of the road
Was a long way off
When our lifelong journey began
And the road was fresh
With pavement new
Amidst the swirling sand
Then came cracks in the pavement
As sand became dirt
As plants came to grow
The road showed its hurt
Now jagged edges scrape the tires
The car begins to catch some air
The forest is consumed by fires
But it sprinkles ashes to grow again
Though the end is unseen
Its presence is felt
In every bump
The road has dealt
