Elliot
Canto I
In a sea of blind emotion
I was born
Faceless
But free
Tendrils of black nothingness
Caressing the blank slate
Of my faceless facade
Painting a world
Whispering
“Elliot
Don’t forget
Elliot”
Sudden tingling of flesh
Wind engulfing my form
Falling
An expanse of sightless darkness
An explosion in the dark
A single star
Expanding
Giving birth
To my eyes
It comes like a train
The ground beneath my feet
The unblinding white light
Breaking apart
Into a million different colors
Words flash through my mind
Between shadows at play
Questioning
Did I fall into this world
Or did it fall into me?
The world has no answer
As clueless as me
Conversing in footsteps
Soft words through my feet
It feels that we’ve waited
Forever to meet
Tears in my eyes
I fall to my knees
And when I look up
There’s a forest of trees
The shadows are saying
“Remember your name
For you and the world
Are not one and the same…”
“But what do shadows know?”
I wonder
Sitting against
A welcoming redwood.
“What do shadows know…”
